Francesco Illy of the iconic Illy coffee family made an inspired move to Montalcino where he had fallen in love with the land and soon began planting vineyards. Quality was imperative for any product that bore his name, but he didn't want to wait years deemed necessary for a vineyard to produce the stuff of fine wine. With a few experimental ideas for his vineyards, along side biodynamic farming methods, he expeditiously propelled himself into the world of fine wine. With Sebastian Nasello at the winemaking helm, Podere le Ripi produces an excellent fleet of wines from Toscana IGT to Brunello di Montalcino, to the famed Bonsai Rosso di Montalcino.
