The Hangover: Baby-Style
I wrote a Top 10 list awhile back of the things I thought important to know when having a baby. One of those things (#8) was to get out often with your baby…which I hope you did. #9 on that list was “Date Night” which was one of our early mistakes. We just didn’t do enough of them. I guess we kept thinking that we wouldn’t be as vulnerable to “relationship collapse” as other people we knew. And anyways, when you’re working too many hours, sleep deprived and exhausted, “date night” sounds like pure torture. Our bed and the remote control were perfect.
Early on, our friends Julie and Amy offered to come babysit so we would go out on our own. We turned them down a million times but they were insistent. They lived near by so that was nice and the babies were about six months old when we finally took them up on their offer. Tere met them at the house for the “hand-off” and everything went swimmingly. Julie and Amy have lots of nieces and nephews so we weren’t worried about their ability to manage the babies and felt confident they would have a fairly peaceful evening. Read More
Timbuktu “Chiller”
Ok, I’m no beer drinker but if I were, THIS would be pretty amazing…and I LOVE timbuktu messenger bags so whatever they make MUST be good!!
“It’s a well known fact that the only thing better than just drinking is drinking in public because it’s just the right amount of naughty. Technically you could get arrested, but that’s half the fun. The Timbuk2 Limited Edition Dolores Chiller 2 is a fully insulated, waterproof cooler capable of carrying (at least) 12 bottles of beer with an attached bottle opener that is disguised as a messenger bag. Take it to the beach, the pool or just out for a stroll and you will never be more than arm’s reach from a cold one. $110”
Declaration T-shirts
Ok I’m really liking the looks of these t-shirts and I especially like that the line was “founded in 2009 by college roommates Kenn LoBianco and Joe Klepacki in Boston, Massachusetts — the very same city where over two centuries ago, the War of Independence was ignited, which ultimately lead to the birth of our nation. Using the American Revolution as their inspiration, Declaration Clothing Co. aims to retell our national epic through the medium of apparel. Of course, the brand is inherently “All-American”, with each and every shirt hand-printed right here in the good ol’ US of A. With just 2 percent of clothing being made here in the States, that’s certainly a reason to cough up a few bucks for a great looking tee. $24”
Thrillist’s Summer BBQ List!!
This list of amazing BBQ stuff for your summer is pretty rad. I especially like the Salt and Pepper shakers that allow you to season your meat while NOT burning your hand! I think I’m going to have to get them for my Dad. :) Check it out!
OK, this little BBQ from www.black-blum.com may be from England but it’s effing GENIUS!!! Check it out - it’s a BBQ - it’s a plant - it’s a BBQ - it’s a plant!! Sooo perfect for an apartment balcony, small patio, rooftop deck…. :)

The Muppets trailer…you KNOW you’re excited to see this!!! :)
:) Funny!
This video is probably a little old, you might have seen it before. But its still great for a second look and it definitely belongs here on the Dad Rock blog.
I only became a Dad 9 months ago. When I first saw this video it was funny but didn’t fully resonate. Now since Lanie arrived I am clearly headed into the Dad Life.
I can feel the change creeping over me. I’m getting fat and my house is being overtaken by a 20-inch tall Queen — and its awesome. We crawl around on the floor together when I get home from work. She hits me in the face a lot when she’s on my lap or sitting on my chest. She’s not very coordinated.
Its the Dad Life. This weekend I’m going to refresh the mulch beds.
The Loch Ness Monster
The first time we tried to quiet one of our crying and screaming babies was only a few days after the twins were born. Up until that point, they had done the usual crying that babies do when they’re hungry or wet or need to be burped but it’s all child’s play until something really goes wrong. Izzy had stopped eating at the hospital and they ran an x-ray to see if she had an intestinal blockage. They started before I had arrived at the hospital that day and my wife immediately sent me to the nursery to find out what was going on. When I arrived, a nurse was holding Izzy down while a technician took the x-ray. Izzy was screaming her head off – or at least as much as a two-day-old can scream. The nurse holding her looked at me and said “Well, she’s a fighter. You know that much for sure!”
They wrapped her back up and handed her to me. I was dumbfounded. What in the world was I supposed to do with this tiny, screaming baby? The nurse handed me a pacifier and we worked to see if it would help in calming Izzy down. It partially worked for a little while. Read More
