The Coming Cloud Wars: Google+ vs. Microsoft (plus Facebook)
by Tim Carmody
The next year in tech will be all about building connections between PC and post-PC devices, whether phones, tablets, game consoles, e-readers or next-gen SmartRoombas. They’ll be connections without cords, built on shared interfaces, proximity-based communication, and storage, syncing and computing infrastructure increasingly shifted to the cloud. Read More
Jeffrey Katzenberg on the Future of Movie Watching
I worked with JK for a minute on a project for my boss and he was everything you’d expect: smart, articulate, concise, to the point, gracious, funny and game for whatever we asked him to do. Great guy!
Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg sat down with Fortune’s Andy Serwer to discuss 3D technology, joining the Zynga board, and why movies suck this summer.
My other little friend is Nick. He sends me things to post also. From now on, his “stuff” will be referred to as “Nick’s Corner”. Nick loves golf and sent me this rough video of some random guy betting Michael Jordan that he couldn’t get on to the green on a Par 3. Well, he does and then he grabs and dashes on the cash! Classic!
One degree of separation separates Peter Lee Johnson to my little friend Lee - they’re technically in the same frat. Lee sends me things all the time that end up here; we refer his “stuff” as “Lee’s Corner”. Check out Peter’s awesome violin work on Nicki Minaj’s Super Bass. Pretty amazing - the guy is good!
New Los Angeles law bans harassing bicyclists
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A new Los Angeles law makes it a crime for motorists to harass bicyclists, verbally or physically. The City Council approved the ordinance on Wednesday. It also allows victims of harassment to file civil lawsuits without waiting for the city to press criminal charges. League of American Bicyclists president Andy Clarke calls the law groundbreaking, saying no other city in the nation offers bicyclists an equivalent civil recourse. Bicycle advocates have complained that motorists throw objects, shout insults and try to run them off the road. The Los Angeles Times says census figures showed in 2008 that about 13,000 people commute to work on bicycles in Los Angeles.

Al Franken Takes Down Anti-Gay Witness for Mischaracterizing Study - July 20th
“Sen. Franken is right,” the lead author of the study told POLITICO. The survey did not exclude same-sex couples, said Debra L. Blackwell, Ph.D., nor did it exclude them from the “nuclear family” category provided their family met the study’s definition.
Watch an Extra-Peppy Reimagining of theMad Men Credits
Says animator Paul Rogers: “I enjoy the show, but the titles have bugged me from the start. It seems to me that they missed an opportunity for a good update of classic film and television titles from the early 1960s.” It’s reminiscent of that opening scene in the new SCDP offices — which we loved — but still, weird to be this perky about Mad Men, no?
THIS sounds AMAZING! Ice cream mixed with WINE??? Could be a disaster but I’m willing to try it! This is a Tasting Table recommended event here in Los Angeles this Sunday July 24th from 2p-5p at Domaine LA (info below). Woohoo!!
Carmela Ice Cream is drifting from its farmers’-market roots into boozy territory–a move we wholeheartedly support. Taste the Pasadena-based creamery’s wine-based sorbets made in collaboration with sommelier Heather Willens, at Domaine LA ($6 for advance tickets; $8 at the door). Naturally, Carmela’s Malbec and Cava sorbets will be accompanied by their liquid counterparts. Domaine LA, 6801 Melrose Ave., Mid-City; 323-932-0280 or domaine547.com
Who is at Comicon and saw the Lionsgate - Hunger Games booth? What do you think?
If anyone thinks that same-sex marriage will destroy families, they’re crazy. If anything, it’s destroying the same-sex families that already exist when a parent has to explain to their child why mommy and mama or dad and daddy can’t get married in their state. This is a great story and an Op-Ed piece about a family in New York who will finally be married this weekend by Mayor Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion. :)

Besides… If men are going to make women take the birth control (which wreaks havoc on our systems) for a shared act it should at least be paid for! :P
I agree with you on all accounts. I didn’t think that unintended meant teenage but I was just in complete shock that 50% of ALL pregnancies are unintended. Clearly 60% of those go to term, etc and I’m sure those families are happy. I guess for people with fertility struggles or same-sex partners like us (on both accounts), it just boggles my mind that pregnancy could be “unintended”. Know what I mean? Doesn’t everyone have a bunch of doctors, nurses, drugs and medical procedures involved like we did? :)

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN trailer!!
I’m sure you’ve seen SOCIAL NETWORK. Larry Summers was the President at Harvard and was depicted in the movie when the Winklevoss twins came to him asking for help against Mark Zuckerberg whom they claimed stole their idea for Facebook. His take on the twins is sort of hysterical…. this was sent to me by my friend Nick - nice find Nick!
They take their pizza very seriously in India.
