Oh when will the cronut-craze end!!! Nothing good was going to come of this “let’s put a cronut on a burger” thing.
Watch a Toronto Chef Taste Test the Cronut Burger
Here’s a video from the Globe and Mail featuring reporter Hannah Sung and burger specialist Shant Mardirosian — founder of Burger’s Priest in Toronto — taste testing the brand new Maple Bacon Jam Cronut Burger. Created for the Canadian National Exhibition, the burger is a collaboration from the bakery Le Dolci and Epic Burgers and Waffles, both in Toronto. This novelty burger includes: a beef patty, processed cheese, a cronut bun with cinnamon sugar, and maple bacon jam on top.
Mardirosian thinks the burger “looks incredible,” while Sung is more skeptical: “I have to admit I think the idea sounds fairly disgusting.” In terms of taste, Sung finds the burger tastes “like a really great cronut with meat thrown in there by accident.” Mardirosian finds that “the sweet and savory definitely works together” and that “you get nice hints of bacon.” However, he “can’t taste the beef much” and says “for a one time deal it’s alright.” He ultimately gives the burger a C- because “beef quality isn’t jumping out,” though he gives the cronut bun itself an A. Of course this isn’t a true Cronut Burger, just one of a long list of Cronut knockoffs.
