Dwell Magazine: The Joy of Cooking
I saw this in the latest edition of Dwell magazine and thought you might find it interesting. Some fascinating little gadgets. I especially like the completely unnecessary (but fun) letter D - Le Whaf by The Lab Store Paris. Pulsating crystals in the bottom of the carafe turn any liquid into clouds you can inhale. Now that’s FUN!

Uber Ice Cream starts at 11:00a!!! Who’s getting an early batch?
Two lovely thing are happening tomorrow. This is one of them - Uber has partnered again here in LA with Carvel Ice Cream and if you access Uber’s app, a Carvel ice cream truck will show up to sell you ice cream sandwiches. Brazilliant! @uber_la #uber #ubericecream #eatplusdrink #icecreamondemand #food #foodie #lafoodie #eat

Amazing!! NYC to LA in 45 minutes!!!!
Wow!
Uber Ice Cream On Demand!!
From Eater: Car service company Uber is bringing back its one-day on-demand ice cream truck promotion again this year, but this time they’ve expanded the offer to 33 cities around the world. You download the app, press the ice cream button, and if a truck is available, you and four to six friends will get a bunch of frozen treats and Uber swag within minutes.
Uber has partnered with local ice cream trucks to make this all happen. The promo runs tomorrow, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m local time.
In the US, the ice cream delivery service will run you anywhere from $10 to $36, depending on the city, with the higher amounts appearing to serve larger groups of people. Trucks are limited, so it might “take a few tries" before you finally hook one.

Free S’Mores at Superba
To celebrate their one year anniversary, Superba is giving away a free S’More to each table all weekend starting tonight (Thursday). Yippee!!
From LA Weekly: Jason Neroni’s Superba Snack Bar is turning a year-old on Friday, July 19, and in celebration the chef-owner will be giving complimentary s’mores tomorrow through Sunday during brunch, lunch and dinner. A diner favorite, the campfire classic has been reinterpreted as a dessert in a jar. Chocolate pudding is sprinkled with crushed graham crackers then topped with smoked marshmallow. Each table will be given one order to share.
Superba Snack Bar was named an Essential Restaurant by the Weekly earlier this year. In her review of the Venice restaurant last September, our critic Besha Rodell found that “while Superba’s charm is all about atmosphere on first look, there’s some damn good food waiting to back up that atmospheric promise.“

Family Get Together
I’m not sure what you guys were doing for the 4th of July, but most of my family got together in Tennessee this year. On the one evening it wasn’t raining, we grilled pizzas, drank some amazing Jarvis wine and then devoured my aunt’s angel food and berry cake. I have only three words:
A

ZING!
Wow! One of my FAVORITE L.A. watering holes, Freddy Smalls, was listed by Zagat as one of the best 16 Must Try Cocktail Destinations Around the U.S.!
LA: Freddy Smalls Bar & Kitchen
Food: 26
Decor: 24
Service: 24
“Adventurous foodies” will delight in the “innovative” American fare (“try the bacon cashews”) at this “hip but welcoming” new West LA “neighborhood bar and kitchen” by owner Jeff Weinstein (The Counter) and chef Charlie Parker; with its “vintage” design, “nicely curated cocktail menu” and “jagged” but “cool” music selection, the “tiny” room feels like “stepping into a speakeasy”, so it’s “excellent for dates.”

This is seriously amazing BECAUSE the amazing GALE HAROLD is a complete douche-bag waiter with an unbelievably bizarre beard. He needs to work more so we can see his face again!
Eater LA is more interested in the rant by Chef Ludo Lefebvre though: “…features a performance from Los Angeles chef Ludo Lefebvre. The video makes fun of the touchy feely trappings of LA restaurant Cafe Gratitude where servers ask guests questions of the day like “What is blessed about your life?” and menu items are listed as affirmations. Funny or Die imagines what a restaurant called Cafe Attitude might be like instead; a place where service is rude and dismissive and guests are told what to order. While customers are dining, Ludo storms in demanding to know why the restaurant called him out on Twitter for no-showing, like LA restaurant Red Medicine once did. (By way of background, the chef’s new restaurant Trois Mec uses a ticketing system to fight no-shows). Ludo’s rant about hospitality is well worth a watch.“
