Oysters, oysters, oysters!!!!

Shell Game: Stack seafood, not bills, at EMC Raw Bar in Koreatown

As we’ve mentioned more than once in the past few months, there may be no better time than now to dive into fresh seafood in L.A.

The only downside? It usually results in a much lighter wallet.

Imagine our delight, then, when we discovered EMC Raw Bar & Seafood, an expansive wood-and-glass-lined restaurant located within Koreatown’s most opulent mall, City Center on 6th.

Daily from 5 to 7 p.m., a seasonal selection of $1 oysters is available, ranging from Chesapeake Bay Eastern bivalves to Kumamotos. Tasting Table did this great post on Rose Lawrence and her Red Bread establishment.  I love it when someone starts small and just blows up!

Our Daily Bread

Is there anything Rose Lawrence can’t do?

Between baking organic pastries, canning locally sourced jams and pickles, and delivering weekly loaves of fresh-baked bread via bicycle, the owner of Red Bread is on a personal mission to transform Westside pantries.

Lawrence and her husband, David, have long held a presence at the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market, where they sell out almost every week. With their new brick-and-mortar bakery and café in Culver City, the couple hopes to spread the gospel of wholesome baked goods even further.

Gather a few friends for breakfast to enjoy the café’s tea service for four ($50), which includes a wide selection of the day’s pastries and sandwiches: cracked oatmeal cookies studded with TCHO chocolate ($2), fig-filled “jammy newtons” ($2), soft Montreal-style bagels ($3), French toast challah ($3), and soft sourdough tartines topped with house-cured gravlax or bacon ($7).  READ MORE

Supper Clubs

Great little article and slideshow about the contents of Wolvesmouth owner/chef Craig Thornton’s kitchen.  Wolvesmouth was the inspiration for the Eat+Drink Supper Club.  Wolvesmouth is an underground supper club housed in Thornton’s downtown loft with a mile long wait list.  Eat+Drink is on the west side, in a lovely inviting environment (our house) and provides an opportunity to meet like-minded foodies that you’ll want to chat with over and over again.  Come join us!
