I can’t hide it - I love Superba.  I love Jason Neroni.  I love his pasta.  I even love Rose Ave.  Soon, there will be even more Superba to love!!!

Superba Food & Bread

After chatting with Paul Hibler and chef Jason Neroni earlier and learning more about their forthcoming Superba Food & Bread, Eater decided to hit up the restaurant’s proposed locale, a former auto body shop on Lincoln Boulevard in Venice. A very cool and creative site for a restaurant. Cal Asia has signed up to managing the building’s construction/renovation, and Design, Bitches, who colored Superba Snack Bar (and won an AIA award for their vision) is onboard here again for design. On their website they have a bunch of renderings which depict Superba Food & Bread as a promising social hub with an exposed ceiling and open layout. It looks like they’ll retain some of the auto shop’s original bones, while updating the space with an overall industrial vintage aesthetic. The goal is to open by the end of this year.  READ MORE

Diner en Blanc

This has been a Parisian favorite for the past 25 years and now it’s coming to Los Angeles on August 21st.  Go to the website and sign-up for what I am sure is going to be an AMAZING evening!  How could you miss something THIS fabulous?  It’s a MUST DO for this summer in LA.

Nook Bistro

“The Nook” is named for an obvious reason - it’s in the nook of a West Los Angeles strip mall and it’s difficult to find.  You sort of have to know what you’re doing which makes this aspect of this restaurant one of my favorites.  I like exclusivity and I also like something that requires working a little harder than usual to get it.  Once you’re “in the know”, it’s fun to have the knowledge that everyone else wishes they had.

The Nook is only open for dinner these days (they used to do lunch) but man what a good dinner it is.  The guys who own/run it also have Bergamot Cafe over in Santa Monica which has some of the most edible sandwiches and salads anywhere!

But I digress….sorry.  The Nook is pretty damn amazing and I especially like their calamari, Niman Ranch pork chop, the Nook burger, and the organic half chicken.  My kids had the chicken this past Sunday and there was literally nothing left of it afterwards.  But my all-time favorite from the Nook is dessert.  And not just any dessert.  The Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding.  Amazeballs.

The Nook has a solidly diverse but yet affordable wine list and a substantial list of interesting beer.  They recently added in mixed drinks and I hear soon will have a beer tap.  If you’re looking for the perfect spot to grab a little nosh and try a wine or beer you wouldn’t normally, The Nook is the place for you!

Stella Barra

I’ve been in love with Stella Rosa in Santa Monica for awhile now.  Amazing pizzas, great drinks, decent wines and probably the best burrata appetizer I’ve EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.  Yes, you heard me.  THE BEST.  I just want to take it and smear it all over me so I can love on it 24/7.  Oh wait, I digress.

Stella Rosa has a paternal twin in Hollywood.  Not an identical twin but they look an awful lot alike.  Stella Barra is Chef Jeff Mahin’s Hollywood version of Stella Rosa.  The pizzas are there but they’ve added a few more things in - like lunch and breakfast.  Sounds like a must-go to me!

Find. Eat. Drink.

I receive a number of food, wine and design newsletters and a new one I was introduced to is Find. Eat. Drink.  I dig it.  The look is clean, the information straight-forward and the editorial is interesting which can be tricky these days, funny enough.  I liked this piece today - a snapshot of Caroline Styne’s, AOC-Tavern-Larder, take on food and wine in Los Angeles.  She knows what she’s talking about and is not steering any of us wrong.

Disclaimer: AOC has been one of my favorite restaurants since it opened almost 10 years ago and we make chef Suzanne Goin’s sweet potatoes almost every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.  Yes, that’s how good they are.

Supper Clubs

Great little article and slideshow about the contents of Wolvesmouth owner/chef Craig Thornton’s kitchen.  Wolvesmouth was the inspiration for the Eat+Drink Supper Club.  Wolvesmouth is an underground supper club housed in Thornton’s downtown loft with a mile long wait list.  Eat+Drink is on the west side, in a lovely inviting environment (our house) and provides an opportunity to meet like-minded foodies that you’ll want to chat with over and over again.  Come join us!

Food Fare 2013

We sampled our way around this massive event for Planned Parenthood last Thursday.  The food was amazing but we assumed it would be when the like of Joe’s, Lucques, Border Grill, AOC, Boa and Superba are in the mix.  I hope you have a chance to go next year as it was a very decadent way to eat at a dozen restaurants in one night!

Zagat’s 30 Under 30: LA’s Hottest Up-and-Comers of 2013

One of my favorite chefs, Charlie Parker of Freddy Smalls, was recognized by Zagat’s as one of Los Angeles’ top chefs to keep an eye on in 2013.  You know we’re on to something when I highlighted Charlie and Freddy Smalls months ago.  Keep an eye on Charlie and Eat+Drink!!

I love QR codes…this one goes to the sign up form for my new site Eat+Drink.  Check it out or just click through to the site.  :)  Sign up for some really awesome and EXCLUSIVE opportunities that we’re planning!!
